Tournament Information
  


SBMC is proud to host one of the largest youth soccer tournaments in British Columbia for boys every March for the past 27 years, over 200 teams from throughout BC; Alberta; and the States join in a competitive yet friendly soccer matches.
  • Each team entered will be matched in a pool of four teams that will provide a competitive experience. 
      • Each pool plays in a round-robin format with the team gaining the most points declared the winner. 
      • Each team plays three games.  Teams will usually play two games on one day and one on another day.
      • Each pool winner is awarded a Champions plaque and Champions medals.
      • There will be a Champions Trophy available for pool winners to take their team picture with at Burnaby Lake West and at Riverway Sports Fields.
      • Each U06 to U07 player will receive a Tim Horton's Timbits Soccer medal after their last game of the tournament.
      • Each U08 to U13 player will receive a tournament participation medal after their last game of the tournament.
  • Due to field limitations, the tournament sells out very quickly in every age group, be sure to enter your team early to avoid disappointment.
      • To enter, go to the 2010 SBMC Tournament Registration Page (you can start registering in November 2009)
      • Once you submit the your entry form, a spot will be saved for your team.  The form is sent via email to the tournament coordinator.
      • Mail in your cheque payable to "South Burnaby Metro Club" right away to save your spot in the tournament.
      • Once payment is received, an email confirmation will be sent.
      • If your entry fee is not received by March 1, 2010, your spot will be given to a team on the waitlist. 
  • 2010 SBMC Tournament Fee:
      • U06 to U07 - $100.00 per team (Boys and Girls teams) - one day festival
      • U08 to U10 - $150.00 per team (Boys and Girls teams) - two day tournament
      • U11 to U12  - $275.00 per team (Boys and Girls teams) - two day tournament
      • U13 to U18  - $350.00 per team (Boys only teams are accepted) - starts Friday evening

  • The South Burnaby Metro Club Tournament is all about good sportsmanship and good times.

THE SBMC Youth Soccer Tournament Rules of Play

  • As a BCYSA sanctioned event, this tournament will be played under FIFA rules, with the following additions and/or exceptions:

1.      Team rosters are limited to 14 players in U6 to U12; 18 players in U13 to U16; and 20 players in U17 and U18. Only registered players with an official soccer club and/or soccer association and/or soccer school are eligible to play. 

2.    Intentional Stacking of ringer players (gold playing silver or bronze, etc.) is not permitted and will result in the team's expulsion from the tournament with no refund of entry fees.  Teams are permitted to pickup 3 additional players to supplement their roster.  However, these players must be playing at the same or lower level of play, eg Silver level teams may pick up Silver or Bronze level players but not Gold or Metro levelplayers.

3.    Team Lists are to be submitted to the tournament coordinator 1 week prior to the tournament.  Team Lists are to be submitted to the referee prior to the start of each match.

4.    Each team must be prepared to play with a minimum of 6 for minis and 7 players for divisionals on the field by game time, or default that game.

5.     Eligible players must wear its club's complete official strip, and goalies must dress according to soccer rules.

6.      Unlimited substitutions are permitted, but the referee must be notified.

7.      Game duration:

  • U06 - U07 - U08 2 x 20 min halves
  • U09 - U10 2 x 25 min halves
  • U11 - U12 2 x 30 min halves
  • U13 - U18 2 x 35  min halves.

8.      Additional Rules for Minis:

  • U06 and U07 - Micro soccer 4 on 4
  • U08, U09 and U10 - plays 7-aside on field
  • U08 and U09 - Off sides will be called at the referee’s discretion
  • U10 – Off sides will be called
  • U08 to U10 No goalie pass back penalty
  • U11 and U12  plays 8-aside on 3/4 size field with 3/4 size nets - Laws of Soccer apply 

9.      Points Awarded (all Age Groups):  

  • 6 points awarded for a Win
  • 1 bonus point for a Shutout
  • 3 bonus points maximum per goal scored
  • 3 points awarded to each team for a Tie
  • 0 points for a Loss
  • In the event of a tie in the group standings the tie breaker will be determined by:
    1.  Team with most wins in-group,
    2.  Result of head to head game with tied team,
    3.  Net goals (maximum of 3 per game),
    4.  Least goals allowed,
    5.  Shared Title if still tied after all of the above.

10.  Disciplinary rules:

  • Two yellow cards in any game or concurrent games will result in the player’s suspension for a minimum of one game.  Further discipline to be decided by the Discipline Committee.
  • Any red card will result in an automatice one game suspension with further discipline to be decided by the Discipline Committee.
  • There is no appeal from the referee’s decisions.

11.  Any disputes or protests concerning games must be forwarded to the Field Marshal not more than 30 minutes after the game has ended.

No disputes will be accepted on a referee's decision or call.

12.  The Tournament Discipline Chair’s decision is final in any dispute.
