What drives us
The Club exists to offer youths with organized sporting activities in soccer, baseball and basketball.
The People
The Parents are the most important part of the South Burnaby Metro Club's programs. Without parent involvement there would be no SBMC. SBMC relies on parents to volunteer to run our sports and community programs; to be the team managers, coaches and assistant coaches for our numerous sports teams; to involved and to participate in the decision-making process of the executive committees; and to do the 1001 jobs that make the Club operate as well as it does. Every year, as there are more and more youths participating, the program grows, the Club needs more and more parents to help out running our programs.
As a parent, your input and participation are urgently required. While it is important that you support your child on the playing field, it is equally important that you support the Club in its overall efforts to mount the kind of programs that your child enjoys. Talk to your team coach or contact one of the Club executive members to find out how you can assist the South Burnaby Metro Club to bring a better programs for your child. Parents are always invited to attend the Club executive meetings.
As well as supporting the Club, it is even more important that you actively and vocally support your child and his team. That support should always be positive in its nature. No player wants to hear criticism or reproach from a parent, especially in front of his peers or coach. Parents are advised to follow that well-known dictum:
"If you can’t find anything nice to say; don’t say anything at all."
Our advice to parents is to ensure that your respect for your child's coach and members of the opposing teams at the game. It is the coaches job to coach and the parents job to cheer on the team. Remember which role you are filling when you are at the game. All too often parents issue instructions to their child when they are at the game that directly contradicts instructions issued by the coach. This just leads to confusion. Please let the coaches do their job.
In a similar vein. don't 'run down' opponents or the opposing team officials and the referees. These people are also volunteers and do the best job they can. If you have an issue with the actions or tactics of any member of an opposing team or the referees, bring it to the attention of your own team coach. The coach will determine what is appropriate action and act accordingly. Your role as a parent does not extend to redressing perceived 'wrongs' on your own initiative.
The people involved in the Club are all volunteers who dedicate their time to serving the youths of Burnaby.
